Poker Tournaments Online, with Schedules and Ratings
© 2007-2008 Arnold Snyder
Go straight to the online poker tournament patience factors and skill ratings.
This page covers online poker tournament locations, buy-in costs, and blind schedules, plus "Patience Factor" and "Skill Level" ratings.
I do not list all of the no-limit tournaments available at the sites reviewed below. I ignored all tournaments with buy-ins of under $10—and there are hundreds of these. I also do not list days and time schedules at this time as the poker rooms recommended below run good tournaments 24 hours a day, with many tournaments overlapping. When you find a tournament you like in the chart, it will probably be scheduled seven days of the week, sometimes multiple times per day.
I suggest starting out at two or three of the online poker rooms with tournaments best suited to your current skill level, and start building a schedule from there.
Bankroll requirements are dependent on the number of players in a tournament, so I do not provide bankroll requirements in this chart as I do for Las Vegas poker tournaments. Unlike tournaments in live poker rooms, where the number of players does not vary greatly, online tournaments may run from a few dozen players to well over a thousand. Also ignored here for the moment are single-table sit’n’gos.
If there is a specific online no-limit tournament you would like to see analyzed in our charts, send me the details. I need to know the number of starting chips, the length of the blind levels, and the exact blind structure.
Online poker tournament patience factors and skill level ratings are related to the tournament strategy in The Poker Tournament Formula, which provides a professional strategy for making money in fast (less than 1 day) multi-table no-limit hold'em tournaments. Patience factors and skill level ratings are crucial to adjusting your strategy for each particular tournament. They are also important in estimating the value of any tournament to a skilled online poker tournament player.
If you want to win consistently at poker tournaments online, it's crucial that you understand that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for all no-limit hold'em tournaments. For more information on these factors and others crucial to optimal strategy in poker tournaments online, see The Poker Tournament Formula.

Comments on online tournaments at Poker.com:
Poker.com's $55 Sunday afternoon tournament with unlimited rebuys has the single highest patience factor of any regularly scheduled no-limit hold'em tournament I've found online. This high-skill event has a guaranteed $10,000 prize pool and would be not only great for making money for skilled players, but also great practice for the long, slow big-money live and online poker tournaments.
Note: The Skill Levels presented in these listings are presented as two numbers divided by a slash. The number before the slash is the Skill Level as calculated by the formula provided in The Poker Tournament Formula. That number tells you the STRATEGY Skill Level of the tournament. The number after the slash is equal to the first Skill Level number minus 1, and is meant to more accurately reflect the earning potential of the tournament for skilled players.

| ABSOLUTE POKER |
Comments on online tournaments at Absolute Poker:
Absolute Poker’s rebuy tournaments turn into high-skill events because of the generous chip allotments provided by the double add-on that all players can make at the end of the rebuy period. Nowhere else but online can you play a $5 tournament with $5 rebuys and add-ons, that is a Skill level 6 tourney with a patience factor of 12.53. They use the same rebuy format in all of their no-limit rebuy events, though the field generally gets smaller as the cost goes up.

| BODOG |
Comments on tournaments at Bodog:
This site boasts some of the best skill events on the Web for small buy-ins. Check out that $11 buy-in no-rebuy tourney that has a patience factor of 16.23. You will never find high skill events at such low prices in live poker rooms in Vegas, California, or anywhere else.
If you want to know why so many young kids have entered the top ranks of tournament pros so quickly, it’s because of these high-skill online tournaments where they cut their tournament teeth. Note that it’s the combination of the starting chips and the length of the blinds that determines the patience factor and skill level. Be careful in these online events because many online poker rooms run similarly-priced tournaments with different structures. You might note that Bodog has a $33 tourney that starts with $1500 in chips, and another one that starts with $5000 in chips.

| DOYLE'S ROOM |
Comments on tournaments at Doyle's Room:
Doyle’s Room does not try to compete with the high-skill online poker tournament offerings available elsewhere online. The highest skill event of their regular tournaments is only a Skill Level 4 tournament. If you are looking for a good medium-speed format online tournament, these are excellent. Just be sure to look for the tournaments that have 15-minute blind levels. All of those Skill Level 0 and 2 tournaments result from the lightening fast blind levels here, designed to get the tournaments over with quickly.

| FULL TILT POKER |
Comments on tournaments at Full Tilt:
All of Full Tilt's online no-limit hold'em tournaments have 10-minute blind levels and use the same structure of blind increases, but the starting chip allotment differs. As you can see from the chart, generally, the more you pay to enter, the more chips you get. Most of their tournaments are Skill Level 4, but I found one $33 tourney with $3000 in chips that has a patience factor of 12.72, Skill level 6.

| GOLDEN PALACE POKER |
Comments on tournaments at Golden Palace Poker:
Their tournaments are not high-skill events. All of their tournaments that have 8-minute blind levels are Skill Level 0. The 12-minute blind levels are Skill Level 2. And their one $39 tournament that has 15-minute blind levels is Skill Level 3.
Note: The Skill Levels presented in these listings are presented as two numbers divided by a slash. The number before the slash is the Skill Level as calculated by the formula provided in The Poker Tournament Formula. That number tells you the STRATEGY Skill Level of the tournament. | INTERPOKER |
Comments on tournaments at InterPoker:
Like Golden Palace Poker, this online casino is not trying to offer high-skill events. Almost all of their tournaments are Skill Level 2, though they offer one $99 tourney with 12-minute blinds that is Skill Level 3. Note that some of their tourneys are in dollars, some in pounds. In the chart, I converted the pounds to the approximate dollar equivalents. They use Cryptologic software.
Note: The Skill Levels presented in these listings are presented as two numbers divided by a slash. The number before the slash is the Skill Level as calculated by the formula provided in The Poker Tournament Formula. That number tells you the STRATEGY Skill Level of the tournament. | PARADISE POKER |
Comments on tournaments at Paradise Poker:
As you can see from the chart, the more you pay here, the higher the Skill Level. I didn’t find any high-skill events here for small buy-ins, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you have better options elsewhere online. But for bigger buy-ins, they have some excellent high-skill events.

| PARTY POKER |
Comments on tournaments at Party Poker:
All of Party Poker’s no-limit tournaments, regardless of buy-in cost, use an identical blind structure and number of starting chips. All are Skill Level 4 tournaments. If you like medium fast tournaments, these are excellent. If you’re looking for a higher-skill event, look elsewhere.

| POKER STARS |
Comments on tournaments at Poker Stars:
This is another online poker room that has identical tournaments, all Skill Level 4, regardless of the price you pay. They’re good medium-speed tourneys, and as the cost goes up, the number of players starting out in the playing field gets smaller.
