Las Vegas Poker Tournaments, Comprehensive Schedule with Ratings

Patience factors and skill level ratings are related to the tournament strategy in my book, The Poker Tournament Formula, which is a professional strategy for making money in fast (less than 1 day) multi-table no-limit hold'em tournaments. Patience factors and skill level ratings are crucial to adjusting your strategy for each particular tournament. They are also important in estimating the value of any tournament to a skilled fast-tournament player.

Monday Las Vegas Poker Tournament Overview
For skilled players who can afford the $540 buy-in, Bellagio’s 2pm poker tourney is the best of the Las Vegas Monday bunch. This is a no-rebuy tournament with a patience factor of 9.00 (Skill Level 5). They typically have 50-80 entries and this will go over 100 in the summer months. With 100 players, skilled players would want a bankroll of about $10,000 to play this event regularly. With only 50 players, a bankroll of about $7,500 should be sufficient.
Caesars has daily single-rebuy tournaments at noon and 7pm, with Skill levels 6 and 5 respectively. They’ve been attracting 60-80 players to their noon tournament, and about 50 in the evening. A bankroll of $3,500 should be enough for the noon event, or about $2,500 for the evening one. Caesars’ poker tournament has a bizarre blind structure. At blind level two, the blinds are $50-$100. At level three, they shoot up to $100-$200 with a $25 ante. That means the cost of going through a round of ten hands almost quadruples, from $150 to $550 in a single jump.
On a tighter bank, I’d pick Orleans’ popular 7pm tourney. This poker tournament has a $80 buy-in. The patience factor is 4.55 (Skill Level 3). With 200 players, and assuming that you are a skilled player, a bankroll of about $3,000 should be good to go for this one.

Tuesday Las Vegas Poker Tournament Overview
Wynn’s $330 noon tourney is the best available on Tuesdays for skilled players. With a patience factor of 15.28, this slow (45-minute blind levels) structure is primarily for pros and semi-pros, Skill level 6. Expect 50-80 players, though this may rise with summer crowds. You should have a bankroll of $5,000-$6,000 for this tournament.
Mirage's $125 7 PM tournament is excellent, but has a lower patience factor and Skill Level than the tournament at Wynn.
Bellagio’s $540 2pm tourney is in direct competition with Wynn. Both of these tournaments attract similar field sizes, so Bellagio’s tournament generally has a bigger prize pool. Bellagio’s tournament is only a Skill level 5 tourney, so less-skilled players may do better there—but keep in mind that the high buy-in and big prize money attract a lot of pros. The competition is tough at both Wynn and Bellagio.
If you're looking for an evening poker tournament, you can choose between Caesars’ Skill Level 5, Orleans’ Skill Level 3, and Venetian’s Skill Level 5. Caesars is $150, Orleans is $80 and Venetian’s is $175 if you do the one allowed rebuy. Orleans' Tuesday night tourney is identical to their Monday nighter in both structure and cost (see comments above), but they usually have a smaller crowd on Tuesdays. They still sometimes get 150+ players, so their prize pool is not much smaller than Caesars’ and Venetians’ tournaments. It’s a good deal for skilled players who like fast rebuy events.

Wednesday Las Vegas Poker Tournament Overview
The daytime tournaments at Wynn and Bellagio are the same as their Tuesday offerings. The best evening tournament is Mirage's 7pm $120 event. My comments above apply. Orleans has a $80 poker tournament at noon, Skill Level 3. This would be an excellent tournament for players on modest bankrolls as the bankroll requirement for skilled players would be under $2,000. In the evening, Venetian has an excellent $175 tournament at 8pm, with a patience factor of 9.53 (Skill Level 5). Venetian’s poker room is new and they just started their tournament program, so it may be going through some changes. I have no idea what kinds of crowds to expect. Mirage also has a $125 7pm tournament. The patience factor is 6.38, Skill level 4. Venetian’s rebuy tournament looks better to me, format-wise.

Thursday Las Vegas Poker Tournament Overview
In the evening, there are two Skill Level 5 tournaments: Venetian at 8 (patience factor = 6.42), and Caesars at 7 (patience factor = 8.52). The Venetian rebuy tourney costs $175. Caesars’ is $150. With only about 50 players, skilled players can get by with a $3,500 bank at the Venetian. But I’ve already mentioned the jarring blind structure at Caesars'. You can play it profitably, but you'd better think carefully about what you have to do before that first jump. If you’ve got just a bit more bank behind you—$4,500 to $5,000—that Venetian poker tournament is a much better offering.
In the afternoon, Wynn and Caesars have their same regular weekday noon tournaments, priced at $330 and $200 respectively, and Bellagio’s $540 tournament is there at 2pm for the players who can afford it. For a good inexpensive noon tournament, rather than Caesars’ $200 offering, Orleans has an $80 no-rebuy tournament with a patience factor of 4.55, Skill level 3. They recently added this tournament, the first no-rebuy event they’ve ever tried, and I suspect it will become very popular. Excellent blind structure.
